Resin Coated vs Fibre Based Photo Paper
When it comes to black and white inkjet photo paper, there are two contenders and each has its plus points. These are resin coated photo paper and fibre based photo paper.
A high percentage of people opt to use resin coated photo paper because of the speed at which it dries, its improved dimensional stability, and the fact that it does not curl upon drying. However, on the other hand you have a group of dedicated users of fibre based photo paper because of its clear and crisp finish.
Of all the companies producing quality inkjet photo paper, few have the reputation of Harman Technology. Harman Technology produces high quality photo paper at reasonable prices and have made numerous advancements in the field of inkjet photo paper.
One of the many advancements Harman have made is with fibre based photo paper. Harman know that one of the main reasons people don’t use it is because it curls when drying. Because of this, Harman have developed an anti-curl system that ensures the prints remain flat after printing and is found in all Harman fibre based photo paper.
There are many arguments over which is the better of resin coated photo paper and fibre based photo paper and one of the main points that is mentioned over and over again is how long they last. Many people who use fibre based photo paper say that prints on this paper will last longer than prints on resin coated photo paper. One thing to bear in mind if this is one of the reasons that is drawing you towards fibre based photo paper is that resin coated photo paper hasn’t been around as long as fibre based photo paper and so that isn’t a valid argument.
Another factor that divides the two groups is the finish of the end print those in the fibre based photo paper camp say they prefer their paper of choice because of its clear and crisp finish as well as its quality surface. Those in the resin coated photo paper camp prefer their paper of choice because it is capable of good tonal range.
There are many plus points for each of the types of inkjet photo paper. The best way to decide for yourself is to try each of the types and see which works for you.
